In 2011, Athabasca County (Municipal district) had a population of 7,662, representing a percentage change of 1.2% from 2006. This compares to the national average growth of 5.9%.
Land area is 6,122.75 square kilometres with a population density of 1.3 persons per square kilometre. This compares to the provincial land area of 640,081.87 square kilometres with a population density of 5.7 persons per square kilometre.
